Brooklyn’s New Culinary Movement
Despite my want to live somewhere rural, I tolerate the mess and grime of my Brooklyn neighborhood because I know that there is something special happening right now, something fleeting: the creation of a habitat that phenomally fosters creativity and innovation unlike anywhere else in the world. Of all places to live, I feel especially certain that Brooklyn right now is one of most dynamic and interesting, and our food movement is just one small, but essential, ingredient of the cultural stew stirring here.
The NYTimes successfully sums up what I love about Brooklyn.
Finally, after years of spoiling only New York, my roommate Brian’s excellent band Apes & Androids is going to the UK to play three shows in April:
- 4/9 - London - Fabric
- 4/10 - Brighton - Digital
- 4/14 - London - ICA
Above is a trailer our friend Matty made for the mini tour (via Vimeo).
Somewhat related: An excellent UK label called Isomorphs ran by Kate Moross has released an absolutely stunning 7” featuring Golden Prize and Riverside. It’s available at Pure Groove for £10.
I read the excellent article about Shane Battier titled The No-Stats All-Star and I couldn’t help but consider how the same misguided obsession with easy-to-measure statistics has influenced the design of social networking applications and rendered many of them ineffective.
Is Facebook or Tumblr really more useful when you have more friends?
(I guess no)
Apparently, a few weeks ago at the Watkins’ wedding, a few of us reinacted the You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling scene from Top Gun.
Oh my, what a generous portion of Bourbon they served.
My voting machine looked like it was designed by Willy Wonka.
I’m interested in joining a collaboration to prototype a replacement.
